To survive a century ago in the Australian Outback the stockmen's livelihood depended on livestock production. They knew they must have exceptional working dogs to operate an efficient and profitable ranching effort. Their goal was to develop a dog with natural, exceptional herding ability along with strength and stamina to make extended drives in sweltering heat as well as frigid weather. Success was theirs with the creation of the Australian Cattle Dog (ACD). Ross Ranch stock dogs are the end result of the selective breeding began in the 1800s.
